I’ve heard it said, “Feelings buried alive never die.” Just because we are good at ignoring our feelings will not make them go away. In fact some feelings have a strong influence over our ability to think and act clearly. The reason this occurs is the emotional mind feels and doesn’t have the capacity to think or act rationally. In fact the emotional mind is unconscious and cannot even decipher the difference between what we see and what we remember and will often connect our present situations to the emotions of past events without us even realizing it. Because we cannot process anything that remains on an unconscious level we must get curious not critical with the emotional reactions that occur. As we consciously process our reactions we begin to realize how irrelevant our current thoughts, feelings, attitudes and beliefs are to our present situation. Examining our feelings in a conscious way will give us the power to change our perceptions and create more happiness and peace in our lives.
